Serge Lemoyne

(1941-1998)

Skwirl Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, in collaboration with Lacerte art contemporain (Montreal) is pleased to present the works of Serge Lemoyne, Serge Lemoyne was born in Acton Vale in 1941. From the mid-1960s, he occupied an important place on the Quebec artistic scene. Lemoyne will be in turn the man of the happening, of live painting, an animator and social agitator, the artist of sound, visual and electronic mediums. He is considered today as one of the most outstanding Quebec painters of his time thanks to a personal pictorial practice which presents in a way a synthesis of the great post-war plastic movements from here and elsewhere. A colourful, rebellious but endearing character, Lemoyne was able to defend with uncommon ardor the same ideal throughout his artistic practice: to make art accessible to a wider audience. Shooting star among the greats of contemporary painting in Quebec.
